The intercooler face will take up a large portion of the plenum's internal cross section, so the plenum's cross section would have to grow to compensate. Additionally the plenum's ideal volume is defined by a lot of engine characteristics. Because of the volume taken up by the intercooler, the plenum would have to grow significantly as well.
